Tijuana, Mexico (April 2023) - Service Trip Recap

We were so excited to send yet another team to serve our newest partners in Tijuana! This team all reside in SoCal so it was great for them to have a quick weekend opportunity to be able to serve internationally. What a perfect reason to head down to Mexico to celebrate KIDS for Dia del Niño (Day of the Child)! The weekend was filled with plenty of opportunities for children to laugh and play and for our team to live in their child-like faith. Read all about their jam packed weekend of service below!
Day 1
Our team got a very warm BIENVENIDA from the children and staff at the Dia del Niño (Day of the Child) event as they arrived on site in Tijuana, Mexico. The team had some delicious breakfast before joining Father Jesse for a presentation on the realities of Tijuana. The team then dove into handing out lunch and goodie bags to the children as they finished up their special celebration. 🇲🇽🍳🌭🍬
After lunch, the team headed out into the community to help an elderly couple at their home. The team provided the family with some groceries and got to work! With all hands on deck the team built a retaining wall with tires to prevent the dirt from eroding onto the home when the heavy rain comes. ⚙️🛠🏠
The team wrapped up the evening with some delicious dinner with the young adults from @search.tijuana after an evening of basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rally games. The team closed their day with a team devotional in the dome retreat center and headed to bed to prep for an eventful second day! 🏀⚽️🏐
Day 2
The team had an early start and enjoyed some delicious eggs in salsa w/ beans before prepping for the FÚTBOL day the team hosted for the official Dia del Niño (April 30)! Team Captain Frank led the team in organizing fun rallies for children to practice their soccer techniques in teams. The "Champions" and the "Cachorritos Peligrosos" went head to head as they cheered each other on! 🏆⚽️🐶🔥
After a large soccer game the children got to select a brand new jersey to take home! Thank you to our sponsors the children felt like true soccer pros in their new gear. The team then handed out some sweet treats & cake as a final send off to the children as they wrapped up the Day of the Child fesitivites. For many of these children, these are safe & fun spaces for them to just be KIDS without the worry of any other life stressors. Our team was blessed to be able to create that opportunity for this great group of kids from the community. 🎽✨🙏🍰
The team had one final lunch at the church before they headed to the USA/Mexico border crossing to head home! 🇲🇽💚
Another great weekend in Tijuana, Mexico! We are actively growing our collaboration with our new partners in Mexico and are excited about hopefully sending a few more teams their way later this year. Stay tuned for trip dates to be released very soon!
