As the World Cup kicks off today, we're cheering on the countries that hold a special place in the HFK family! ⚽️🫶
Through our partnerships and service efforts, we've had the privilege of supporting children and communities in Mexico, Colombia, and Haiti, while also serving locally in the United States through donation drives, volunteer projects, trip preparation, and more.
If you know HFK, you know that soccer is a core part of how we connect with children and communities. It's a universal language that helps build friendships, create lasting memories, and bring people together. Some of our favorite moments from service trips have happened on a soccer field. 💙
As the tournament begins, we're celebrating the people, partnerships, and communities that make these countries so meaningful to us.
Good luck to all four nations - and a special shoutout to Mexico as they take the field later today! 🙌
🎉 You're invited to our 3rd Annual HFK Family Reunion!
Join us on Sunday, August 16th from 11am -3pm PT for an afternoon of connection, a light lunch, and games like volleyball, cornhole, soccer, and more with the HFK community.
Whether you're a trip participant, family member, volunteer, supporter, or new to HFK, all are welcome! 💙
RSVP via the Partiful link below so we can plan accordingly. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Here's a look back at the most recent trip to Peru - this was the first team the Pucallpa site has had in 4 years!
We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve and partner with @kidsaliveperu once again. 🇵🇪🤍

Tijuana Day 3: Our team was up early and warmed up our bodies by playing a game of ninja. We were quickly out the door and onto hosting activities at a local field for 70+ kids from the community! ⚽️ We hosted soccer, volleyball, relays, bracelet making, activity books, and more! It was awesome to bring a smile to so many young faces! 😄
Back at the church, we had delicious burritos for lunch. 🌯 Our partners were so kind and presented each member of our team with a parting gift, specifically a T-shirt that proudly represents their ministry!
We hustled back to the border, making a last second stop for the team to pick up Mexico World Cup jerseys! 🇲🇽 We are ready for kickoff next week! ⚽️
Tijuana Day 2: We started the day with some delicious chilaquiles and by watching the Champions League Final with the community! ⚽️ Amongst many intermissions we played some futbol-related games, such as a juggling competition!
After, we got to pack food donation bags and hand deliver them to families in the community. In many cases, we got to learn about the family’s background and help to make an impact for them. 🫶
In the afternoon, we joined in the church’s Knowledge Olympics, hosting team vs team games like the human knot! 🪢 And later, we got to spectate their family feud style quizzes, even participating in the games as members of their teams!
The church had a live band for the Knowledge Olympics and we closed a busy second day with some dancing!💃 Working up our appetites for an INCREDIBLE carne asada dinner, team reflections, and an HFK classic, Spot It! 🤍
Tijuana Day 1: Our team started off early, meeting up and walking across the border into Tijuana. We jumped right in to work with our partners, supporting a roofing project installing new wood supports and weather lining. Our team members got to learn new skills working the power saws and nail guns. 🛠️
We took a break to have a delicious cilantro chicken lunch and spend time getting to know our partner's staff! 🙌
After lunch, we finished the roofing project and it was incredible to see the immediate impact that we could have on the family that lives there. Afterwards, we led an activity fair for the kids in the local community. We got to soccer, blow bubbles, draw with chalk, and jump rope! 🏠⚽️🫧
To close out the day, we had delicious fish tacos and consommé for dinner. 🌮 Finally we spent time team bonding and reflecting on our busy first day together! 🤍
#ThrowbackThursday to our most recent Tijuana service trip as we prepare to send another team to Mexico tomorrow! 🇲🇽
We’re excited for all the ways they’ll serve and support this incredible community. Please keep our team in your thoughts and prayers as they travel and continue to make an impact! 🙏

Take a closer look at the incredible impact our team made during their recent service trip to the Dominican Republic, partnering with @seedtosowerministries! 🌎💙
We couldn’t be prouder of this group for coming together to serve local communities through outreach, relationship-building, and hands-on ministry. Their compassion, dedication, and willingness to serve made a lasting impact on everyone they encountered throughout the trip.

Pucallpa Day 8: This day, we got to play the tourists!
We started off the day by taking a boat ride on the Ucayali River and going to an animal conservatory located off the river. In this conservatory, we got to interact with monkeys, the coati (a distant cousin of the raccoon), and capybaras! 🛶🐵
We ended the day eating out to try some other authentic Peruvian dishes, such as ceviche, and desserts. 🍽️
We had a fun filled day to cap off an amazing week serving our partners and the kids they help in the community. 🫶
In the evening, we started our journey back home with a layover in Lima. Here we said our team goodbyes as some split off to an extended trip to Cusco while others continued on home stateside. ✈️
Pucallpa Day 7: We started the morning with waffles and eggs to fuel up for a full day ahead before heading out for our two home visits. 🧇🍳
Our first visit was with a young girl from an Indigenous family in the local community. The family welcomed us so warmly with fresh coconut water and an assortment of beautiful artisanal goods they had handmade and displayed for purchase. 🥥 We were able to drop off groceries and supplies while also taking time to hear more about their story, culture, and daily life.
Our second home visit was with a pregnant young woman. We brought groceries and a special gift to help support her during this season of life. Getting to know her and learning more about her story was both emotional and impactful for our team.
Later in the day, we visited a nearby school where the students were having a field day event! The energy was high, and we had the opportunity to hand out gifts to all of the teenagers there. Seeing their excitement and laughter made the visit even more special.
After returning home for a short break, we headed to our partner site for the evening but not without a small surprise for the team first… We took motor taxis! 🛺 The ride was such a fun experience and quickly became one of the highlights of the day.
When we arrived at the partner site, we were greeted with decorations, surprises, and so much love from the children. They prepared performances for us and even gave us thoughtful gifts to take home. We also shared a traditional meal called Juane, a main dish of the cuisine of the Peruvian jungle.
As the night came to an end, we said our goodbyes and headed home to reflect on such a great and heartfelt day. 🫶
Pucallpa Day 6: This was such a rewarding day! We started the morning by heading over to our partner site to begin our project for the day: cleaning the property and adding privacy shielding to the fences surrounding the area. 🛠️🌿
It was incredibly fulfilling to work together on something that will make a meaningful difference for the site. The work was definitely challenging at times because of the intense heat and humidity, but we pushed through as a team. Thankfully, the staff took such great care of us by bringing out cold water, fresh fruit, and jello to help us cool down and recharge. 🍉💧
Around noon, we wrapped up the project and walked over to the school to pick up the kids after their classes ended. Seeing their excitement and energy instantly recharged us and gave us a much-needed boost.
After that, we all sat down for lunch together and spent the afternoon doing English tutoring and drawing. Later, we headed to the mall for a little outing where we enjoyed some ice cream with the kids and did a bit of window shopping at Miniso. 🛍️🍦
Once we returned, the fun continued with tons of games and activities! We played volleyball, soccer, and even had a water balloon toss. There were also bracelet making and more English teaching opportunities throughout the evening. ⚽️🏐📚
For dinner, we had chicken cordon bleu and wrapped up the night with a fun trivia game where prizes were handed out. After such a full and meaningful day, we loaded back into the truck and headed home! 🙏

✨ Official HFK Reunion Announcement ✨

Pucallpa Day 5: We spent the entire day at the community center, our last full day on this site. We worked hard to complete the maintenance projects we started on Monday, and we were successful! The community now has a beautiful gate for all to see and walk through. They also have a porch that’s on its way to being finished; we laid down a strong foundation that they can build upon as more resources become available. 🛠️💙
In the afternoon, we joined moms from the community for a cooking class and had a cooking-show-style bake-off for flan. In the end, everyone was a winner for putting in the effort and stepping outside of their comfort zone. 🍮🫶
We wrapped up the day with dinner alongside the community staff, enjoying some “pollo a las brasas” at a local restaurant. The best way to describe it is a cross between grilled and rotisserie chicken, but even better! 🍽️
Pucallpa Day 4: It was a full and enjoyable day at the residence. We started the day rolling up our sleeves and putting together a much-awaited soccer field for the kids. The weather finally started heating up, but we weren’t deterred and got the soccer field done! 🛠️🥅
After lunch, we took a boat ride with the kids and staff around the lake. It’s actually the Yarinacocha River, but the locals refer to it as a lake due to how expansive it is. During the boat ride, we went into the marsh and got to see some sloths on the move! It’s rare to see sloths moving since they don’t do it often throughout the day, but we were at the right place at the right time. It was such a treat for us and the kids. 🦥🛶
To end the day, we had our inaugural game on the newly constructed soccer field! ⚽️💙
Pucallpa Day 3: Today started off with a guided tour of the Kids Alive Facility we will be working at for the rest of our trip. With the help of some very cute furry friends (Lucky & Kyla) 🐾, we were able to see all of the current projects and dedicated workshops that are in use.
After the tour, we were introduced to the staff and played a few icebreaker games before heading into a presentation about the site and its mission and values; better equipping us to serve the children and communities of Peru. 🇵🇪 💕
Then our team split in two and started on different maintenance projects. One half was preparing the gate doors for an update and the other half was prepping the base for a new pathway. 🚪
Once we finished up part of the projects, we had a quick lunch before welcoming the local community of mothers and children. We helped with a special event by hosting a variety of activities for the kids including sports, chalk, learning english, and bracelet making! 😊⚽️🏃🏽♀️📖
Pucallpa Day 2: Our team started the day early with one more flight to our final destination. We went straight to church and got to hear a message for Mother's Day. For our first full day with the partners here in Pucallpa, we visited and met the kids and staff at the residence site. ✈️🙏
We were rained out but that didn’t stop us! We have a trusty bag of activities we adoringly call the “Mary Poppins” bag. We got to play bingo, Pictionary, Spot It, and even squeezed in a quick English lesson. ✨
Everyone had fun and was engaged. We got to share in some meals with where we got a chance to have a taste of local fruits, foods, and delicious homemade juices. Everyone is looking for the week ahead! 💙💚
Pucallpa Day 1: We had a full day of travel but we all made it safe and sound and with big smiles. 🙌
Fun fact - all 9 members originated from different airports, with all members meeting up at Lima before heading out to Pucallpa together the next morning. 🤍
Enjoy our trip selfies so far and shots from up high! ✈️
As our next team prepares to head to Peru this weekend, we’re taking it back to Pucallpa in 2022 for this #ThrowbackThursday 💙
It’s been four years since a team has been able to visit this site, and we’re incredibly excited to return, reconnect, and serve however we can. As our team begins a long weekend of travel soon, we’d love for you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers for safe travels and meaningful impact ahead! 🙏🇵🇪
