This trip offers an international service experience in Barva, Costa Rica.
Below are some important details about this upcoming trip.
Deadline to apply for this trip is January 7, 2026.
PARTNER SUPPORT
This team will serve the Roblealto Child Care Association as we learn about their ministry and the impact they have in their community. During our time together, team members will interact with the kids from the homes and the school, the ministry staff, the house parents, and the local community that our partner serves. We will also provide financial and physical support to further aid in their year-round ministry.
“Roblealto is a Christian, public welfare, non-profit organization that cares for the children of Costa Rica who are in critical situations and in need of specialized care and integrated services”. Serving with Roblealto may include moments of prayer, attending church, listening to Christian teachings & songs, and participating in other religious focused experiences.
Here is a short video about our partner and their mission. You can see our HFK teams at 1:48, 2:37, and 2:59!
While we partner with faith-based organizations, it is not a requirement to adhere to a specific religion or belief to join us. We strive to provide an equal opportunity to all individuals interested in our service trips, hoping that each life will be uniquely transformed. That being said, we ask each participant to be respectful of each other and of our partners, and to remain open to conversing about the things that make us different as well as the commonalities that bring us together.

TEAM CAPTAINS
Your Team Captain for this trip will be Nick Amparan. Here is a message from him:
Hello! My name is Nick and I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I transferred to Biola last year and absolutely love it! I had the pleasure of joining HFK on their previous Biola and Friends trip last Spring (March 2025). It was such a life changing trip for me and made me realize that mission/service trips are something that I want to continue to be a part of well into my future.
I had such an amazing time working on service projects around Roblealto’s Bible Home, spending time with the kids and their house parents, and connecting with all of the staff and wonderful people that made the trip so memorable. I also got to be a part of such an amazing team and made some life long friendships along the way. We were all able to connect so quickly and had such a blast working together.
One of my favorite memories from the trip was when myself and one of my team members were having dinner at one of the family houses. The power went out for a while due to rain and I had my guitar with me. The kids wanted me to play a song, but I couldn’t think of a song that they would know that I could play off the top of my head because the WI-FI wasn’t working due to the power outage, so I couldn’t look up any chords. One of the staff that was helping us translate to the kids (who I now consider to be one of my good friends) told me to just let the Holy Spirit lead and so I did. I decided to play the song Reckless Love by Cory Asbury since I already knew the chords and lyrics. I started playing and singing and the kids immediately recognized the melody and started singing along in Spanish. That was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced.
I’m so excited to be returning to HFK and am even more excited that I’m blessed with this opportunity to lead a trip; especially going back to somewhere that holds such a special place in my heart! I can’t wait to see what the Lord will do during this time and hope that you’ll be a part of this special opportunity!
-Nick
