Reality SF Families Spring Trip - Apr 2027

This trip offers an international service experience in Barva, Costa Rica.
Below are some important details about this upcoming trip.

The last day to apply for this trip is February 17, 2027.

PARTNER SUPPORT

This team will serve the Roblealto Child Care Association as we learn about their ministry and the impact they have in their community. During our time together, team members will interact with the kids from the homes and the school, the ministry staff, the house parents, and the local community that our partner serves. We will also provide financial and physical support to further aid in their year-round ministry.

“Roblealto is a Christian, public welfare, non-profit organization that cares for the children of Costa Rica who are in critical situations and in need of specialized care and integrated services”. Serving with Roblealto may include moments of prayer, attending church, listening to Christian teachings & songs, and participating in other religious focused experiences.

Here is a short video about our partner and their mission. You can see our HFK teams at 1:48, 2:37, and 2:59!

While we partner with faith-based organizations, it is not a requirement to adhere to a specific religion or belief to join us. We strive to provide an equal opportunity to all individuals interested in our service trips, hoping that each life will be uniquely transformed. That being said, we ask each participant to be respectful of each other and of our partners, and to remain open to conversing about the things that make us different as well as the commonalities that bring us together.

SPECIAL INFO

We are a Global Partner of Reality San Francisco and are excited to offer two Reality SF specific trips this year! This Spring trip is focused on families. Our Team Captain, Lindsay Barrios, is a Reality pastor and has participated on an HFK trip in the past alongside her 4 year old daughter. This gave her the vision to partner with us and lead this trip!

This is a great opportunity for participants to discern God's calling for service in their lives and create life-long bonds while serving alongside like-minded people! While anyone is welcome to apply for this trip, we are specifically inviting families from Reality SF church and their friends.

You can learn more about our previous trips and partnerships with Reality SF here!

This video highlight created by Reality features some of our trip alumni and was shown at Reality’s services on May 17, 2026:

You can also watch a section of the video below which was shown at Reality SF’s Annual Vision and Prayer night on Feb 1, 2026. HFK is highlighted 25:11 – 28:04.

Here For Kids International is a Reality SF Global Partner! You can learn more about that partnership through the following video:

TEAM CAPTAINS

Your Team Captain for this trip will be Lindsay Barrios. Here is a message from her:

Hi! I love people, cultures, new places, and witnessing how God is bringing his Kingdom of justice and love throughout the world. I’ve had the privilege to learn and serve internationally, and Costa Rica holds a special place in my heart.

As a pastor at Reality SF, it’s been a joy to partner with HFK (and Diego!) to mobilize our congregation to join God’s renewal work in Latin America. Two years ago we took our first international service trip with HFK, and the momentum is growing.

It’s been amazing to watch congregants take the plunge, using their vacation time to serve vulnerable kids and families in Costa Rica and the DR. We are changed. Going, seeing, and participating in God’s work forms us as disciples to love those the world overlooks. With HFK, we get to serve, play, and show Christ’s love to kids who need it, and encourage the local staff who carry on the ministry year-round.

I’ve also had the joy of taking my kids along. In 2024, our family (with Leon 3-mo and Fé 3-yrs) spent a week at Roblealto, supporting a foster home of 10 children and their foster mom. This beautiful ministry deeply impacted us - and Fé still sings “Cristo me ama” with the motions the kids taught her! In 2026, Fé (4) and I joined the Reality HFK trip to the DR. We made friends, served and learned together. Seeing through her eyes opened mine as she began to see a global God.

I can’t wait to invite other families to serve internationally. I know it’s a big investment, but it is so powerful. That’s why we’re planning this HFK trip with families in mind: to make it accessible to learn and serve together. Join my family in Costa Rica as we love God’s kids there! The trip is open to all! Families encouraged :)

-Lindsay
