2025 HFK Service Day

Date: November 1, 2025
Location: Moraga, California

Our fourth annual HFK Service Day was a success, thank you to all who participated!

A total of 27 volunteers helped gather, sort, and pack over 1,945 lbs of physical donations into 33 duffle bags. These duffles are now “Ready to Fly” on our International Service Trips next season.

This year, we partnered with a local high school student, Isaac, on his Eagle Project. He supported with the planning, promoting, and execution of this event – we are very grateful for his collaboration!

Participants came from all over the Bay Area from different communities such as HFK alumni, Lamorinda Boyscouts, SMC Men’s Soccer players, and family and friends!

Note: On each of our International Service Trips, we ask participants to take duffle bags filled with physical donations for our partners. These donations are items we’ve gathered and/or items specifically requested by our partners. Some examples of requested donations have been lawn mower parts, tubs of peanut butter, weighted blankets for therapy sessions, specific sized soccer cleats for a team, and sports socks to complete a uniform!

The day started with a small group setting up the workspace into three sections: sorting, packing, and weighing! As volunteers arrived, they got straight to work with sorting donations from plastic bags that they had brought or that we already had from previous drop-offs. We had A LOT of donations and were. unsure if we were going to be able to get through them all.

Using the stations, each item was sorted into categories: clothes, shoes, toys, sporting equipment, school supplies, etc.

Once all items had been sorted into their respective categories, we packed them into duffles and weighed them. Once they were at 50lbs, we labeled them with HFK luggage tags and added them to our inventory spreadsheet to keep the contents and bags organized.

Before ending the event, we gathered for a thank you and to share more information about HFK, our upcoming trips, and our current 15-Year Anniversary Campaign.

33 duffle bags were packed and are now ready to be taken by trip participants that fly out of the Bay Area on our upcoming International Service Trips! After an afternoon of service, some participants continued the fun at lunch and further reflected on the service experience.

We are very thankful for our partner church, Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church (MVPC), for housing our donations and allowing us to use their space for the service day! We’re also grateful for Isaac and his desire to partner with HFK on his Eagle Project!
