Tijuana, Mexico (Dec 2025) - Service Trip Recap

Dates: Dec 12-14, 2025
Location: Tijuana, Mexico

In just one weekend, our team had the opportunity to make a lasting impact in Tijuana. Partnering with The Missionary Oblates of Tijuana, we helped build a new roof, packed and distributed hundreds of donations, hosted a soccer clinic for local kids, and attended a Posada service to celebrate the Christmas season.

Though the trip was brief, it was filled with joy, purpose, and connection. From serving side by side to worshiping together and sharing laughter, we’re grateful for the opportunity to support, learn from, and celebrate with the Tijuana community.

Day 1

The team crossed the border smoothly and met our partners to get transport to the project site. They immediately got to work building a roof. Despite the unexpected heat and long travel, everyone jumped in with great energy. Later, they attended mass and joined the local community in celebrating the Virgin Mary, which was a meaningful way to ground themselves and remember why they were there. They shared a delicious lunch of fish tacos, giving them a much needed break and time to connect with one another. 🛠️🫶

Before heading back to the roof, they received a special delivery of donations from SRS Distribution Inc. The Southern California branches organized a winter drive for this community. They were blessed to have Angel and Tim help with the delivery. 💌

After lunch, they returned to the worksite and completed the roof, feeling a strong sense of accomplishment seeing the finished structure. They then went back to the parish, where they worked together to prepare bags of rice, beans, and oats for the despensas (food baskets). The teamwork and efficiency were impressive, and by the end of the day they had completed over 400 bags of food. Though they were tired, it was rewarding to know that their efforts would directly support many families in the community. 🙌💙

Day 2

The theme for the weekend was joy, and day two overflowed with it. They woke to a beautiful sunrise, shared breakfast together, and celebrated two birthdays! The team then split into two groups to spend the morning with children at local parishes. While kids finished their catechism lessons, the teams shared moments of joy through games, activities, and sorting donations to bless local families. 🫶

Joy was everywhere - new tennis shoes, piñatas bursting with dulces, clothes hugged tightly, and countless smiles and embraces shared.

After reuniting to exchange stories and enjoy another meal, they had a surprise with a special celebration honoring December birthdays, adding even more joy to the day. They then celebrated a joy-filled Posada Mass, as the space was transformed from a play area and parking lot into a dining hall and dance floor in honor of the true reason for the Christmas season. 🎉🎄

The team served meals to families from nine parishes, danced together, and sharing laughter the whole day long. They ended the night grateful for new friendships, unforgettable moments, and hearts continuously committed to serving as Here for Kids. 💙💚

Day 3

The team began the final day with breakfast and a meaningful moment of reflection, writing affirmations for one another as they looked back on the weekend they had just shared. They then hosted a soccer clinic at a neighboring community’s school soccer field, welcoming over 60 participants. ⚽️

The field was full of energy as the team led team-building activities, a soccer tournament, card games, and practiced English with Listos Learning activity books, along with many other activities. To close out the day, each child picked out a toy made possible by generous donors, and everyone shared pizza together. 🍕💙

At lunch, the team returned to the site to exchange gifts with the local youth group and say their heartfelt goodbyes. Our team then headed to the border, taking time to recap and reflect on the Posada weekend before heading their separate ways home.

It was a busy weekend filled with joy, gratitude, and hard work. 🙌

As we reflect on this impactful Posada weekend, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every trip participant, volunteer, and donor who made this experience possible. Your willingness to step in, serve, and connect brought joy and encouragement, not only to the community in Tijuana, but to one another as well as we celebrated the Christmas season together.

A special thank you to our partners at Search Tijuana for their continued dedication and collaboration. Together, we did more than build a roof or deliver supplies. We shared joy, built relationships, and celebrated the hope of Christmas. We are grateful to be part of this ongoing story of service.
